The newly launched Jaguar XE is a premium sports saloon in the same category as the Mercedez Benz C Class, Audi A4, anf BMW 3 Series. The British car maker previously owned by the company founded by Henry Ford, described the Jaguar XE as a game changer. According to Jaguar, “XE is the change the sports saloon category has been waiting for. The most advanced, efficient and refined sports saloon we’ve ever produced, XE comes to life with innovation, technology and design. Instantly recognisable as a Jaguar, it feels like a Jaguar, it drives like a Jaguar – XE is a Jaguar to its core.”
The XE has been built using state-of-the-art all-new Aluminium Intensive Architecture, with the lightweight aluminium construction creating an incredibly strong body, as well as helping to deliver power with responsive handling and refinement with beautiful design. The XE has a premium suspension layout which utilises the double-wishbone front suspension from the Jaguar F-Type and an integral link rear suspension. XE is the first car in its segment with an aluminium monocoque structure.
Engine
The Jaguar XE (codename X760) was launched at the March 2014 Geneva Motor Show, with production only beginning in April 2015. The XE is powered by the new Jaguar Land Rover 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine range called Ingenium and the Jaguar AJ-V6 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine used by the F-Type. The V6 engines features in higher performance variants.
Transmission
All XE models are equipped with a ZF 8HP eight-speed automatic transmission, a lighter variant of the gearbox currently fitted to other Jaguar models and the competing BMW 3 Series. A six-speed ZF manual gearbox is available on diesel models.
The interior for the Jaguar XE has a central console which features an 8 inches (20 cm) touch screen allowing access to in car entertainment, satellite navigation and vehicle settings. The XE features smartphone connectivity and some models allow the owner to control the vehicle remotely, pre-heating the interior or unlocking the car using a smartphone application.
The XE is the first Jaguar to be built at the Jaguar Land Rover factory in Solihull, which will be dedicated to the manufacture of aluminium vehicles – both Jaguar and Land Rover branded. The XE will be manufactured on the same production line as the second generation aluminium Range Rover Sport.
